DEVELOPING: Neighborhood Shooting Locks Down Newark Charter School

Authorities are investigating a shooting that left a man injured near a school in Newark this afternoon.

Gunfire rang out in the 40's block of Hayes Street at around 1 p.m. sending police to the scene where they joined with school officials at New Horizon Charter School for a lockdown of the facility while officers searched the neighborhood for victims.

A male victim was rushed to University Hospital suffering critical injuries according to officials.

Police set up a crime scene where they collected evidence, and shell casings officials said.

There were no injuries to staff and students at the school.

The suspect remains at-large.
