Officials at University Hospital in Newark alerted police of a male gunshot victim who entered the emergency department around 7:30 p.m.
According to police, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 238 Eastern Parkway just before 7:12 p.m. sending police to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, police say they found multiple shell casings, but after they canvassed the scene, no victims were found.
Police say the victim reported being approached by the armed suspect who opened fire in his direction on Midland Place.
It is not clear if police recovered a crime scene on Midland Place at this time.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
