Several police units and detectives are on the scene of a shots fired incident that connected on a male in Newark’s West Ward.
According to a preliminary investigation, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 365 West Market Street around 5:07 p.m., sending officers to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, police found at least one shell casing near the Georgia King Village housing complex but no victims.
A short time later, officials at University Hospitals contacted police when a male victim entered the emergency department suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in his leg.
Police have not identified a suspect in the shooting or a motive at this time.
