Police in Newark were engaged in a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle occupied by suspects wanted for a violent shooting in the city’s West Ward today.
The broad daylight shooting happened near the intersection of 17th Street and 18th Avenue around 11:12 a.m.
Officers scrambled to the scene and found a male struck in the face by a bullet at that location.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital for treatment while police continued to pursue the stolen BMW in the eastbound lanes of I-280.
Officers reportedly lost the suspects on Broad Street in the Downtown area.
The investigation remains active.
UPDATE: Unoccupied vehicle found on 1st Avenue. The car was stolen out of Cedar Grove. Police are checking the area for suspects.
