DEVELOPING : Juvenile Shot in Broad Daylight in Downtown Newark; Police Detain Two

A juvenile was injured in a shooting that erupted in the heart of downtown Newark on Monday afternoon, prompting a large police response and an active investigation.

According to preliminary information, officers were dispatched shortly before 2:15 p.m. to the intersection of Broad and Market streets after reports of gunfire in the area.
 

When officers arrived, they located a juvenile (14-Year-Old boy) suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment. The the injury is believed to be non-life-threatening.

 

Police detained one male and one female at the scene who are considered potential suspects as the investigation continues. 

A firearm was recovered and section of Market Street remains taped off while detectives process the scene and work to determine what led to the shooting.

 

The investigation remains active, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available from the Newark Police Department.
