A Delaware man has been sentenced to state prison following a dangerous incident on a South Jersey roadway that placed a young child at risk.

Carlos Torres, 37, of Wilmington, Delaware, was sentenced Tuesday to five years in state prison by the Honorable Russell A. DePersia after pleading guilty to endangering the welfare of a child.
According to information released by prosecutors and statements made in court, the incident occurred on July 12, 2024, along Route 55 in Deptford Township.
Authorities said the victim was driving when Torres allegedly grabbed the steering wheel, forcing the vehicle into oncoming traffic.
During the incident, Torres reportedly threatened that they would not make it home.
Officials said a 1-year-old child was seated in the backseat at the time, and the victim alleged that Torres had been drinking.

Torres was convicted of one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child as part of a plea agreement.
