Critical Injuries for Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Newark's Ironbound Section

There are critical injuries reported for a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in Newark's Ironbound section early this morning.

The Essex County prosecutors are looking into the incident that happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. where police and EMS rushed to the area of Adams Street and Walnut Street after receiving calls for an injured male pedestrian.

Emergency responder found the victim laying on the ground suffering serious injuries after being struck at that location.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital where the extent of his injuries was only reported as critical as of 6:38 a.m.

A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that their Major Crimes Task Force are looking into the incident but could not immediately confirm a fatality.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
