A serious crash forced the closure of a busy stretch of Route 21 early Saturday morning near the Essex and Bergen County border.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Route 7 on the Belleville side. Police responded to reports of a crash with injuries and found multiple victims at the scene.
Authorities said as many as six individuals suffered various injuries.
Belleville emergency responders were assisted by North Arlington EMS in treating the victims and transporting them to nearby hospitals.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation. No additional details have been released.
