Community Police Officers Host Pizza Party for Kids, Fun Night for Seniors in Newark's East Ward

Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that 3rd Precinct’s Community Service Officers spent the day visiting area youth and seniors at three events on Saturday.

According to officials, early in the day, Community Service Officers Reed and Silva hosted a New Year’s Eve pizza party for children at the Hyatt Court affordable housing community located at 7 Horatio Court.

Officials said the officers provided pizza and drinks while engaging in a host of fun and entertaining activities.

Officer Reed also made time to visit the Ironbound Recreational Center, located at 226 Rome Street, where Keith Colon provides free boxing lessons.

Officer Reed put on gloves and sparred with Justin Angeles and Jeremiah Diaz under the watchful eye of Coach Colon officials said.

On Friday evening, Community Service Officer Reed visited a Senior Citizen’s Complex at 2 Nevada Court where she donated games, puzzles, and provided coffee and donuts for the seniors. Many seniors left their rooms to join in the fun.

The seniors invited Officer Reed to continue planning these types of interactive meetings, which they described as enjoyable, informative and beneficial to improving police and community relations.

The seniors indicated that the event also offered them an informal forum for providing suggestions about community concerns.
