Child Struck by Car in Newark's Ironbound Section

Poice in Newark are investigating a pedestrian strike that left a young child injured in the city's Ironbound Section earlier this evening.

The incident happened in the vicinity of 47 Hawkins Street just after 5 p.m. where police and EMS found the boy -around the age of 8- on the street screaming after experiencing excruciating pain when a car slammed into him according to preliminary reports.

EMS transported the child to the hospital suffering a severe laceration to the face, head, and blood coming from his mouth.

The boy is listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the car reportedly stayed at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
