Child Struck by Car in Newark

A child struck by a car in Newark's West Ward overnight has police investigating the incident.

According to preliminary reports, police responded to the vicinity of Rockland Terrace and Stuyvesant Avenue on reports of a child hit by a vehicle at around 8:15 p.m.

Officers arrived at the scene and located the mother, and her child at 76 Stuyvesant Avenue then requested EMS reports said.

Police say the child was alert and responsive upon their arrival but complained of pain.

EMS transported the boy to University Hospital where doctors treated non-life threatening injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation, the boy reportedly ran out into the street between parked cars before the driver struck him.

Police say the driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
