Newark Police are investigating a shooting that caused property damaged in the city's South Ward overnight.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 100 block of Elizabeth Avenue just before 2 a.m. where upon their arrival, units established a crime scene after locating evidence that a shooting occurred.
According to preliminary reports, police stopped a vehicle in the area and found the car struck by bullets but there were no injuries reported.
Occupants of the vehicle told police that they came under attack by unknown suspects who fired several time at them before they managed to speed off from the scene.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
