New Jersey State Police are investigating a dramatic early-morning crash in Totowa that left a vehicle embedded inside a commercial building.

Emergency responders were dispatched to 601 Union Boulevard after receiving reports of a crash with possible injuries around 3 am.

When police and firefighters arrived, they discovered a car that had smashed through the brick exterior of a commercial structure, with nearly half of the vehicle lodged inside the building.

Firefighters searched the vehicle but found no one inside.

Authorities say the driver fled the scene on foot and remains at large.

Investigators believe the car exited an Interstate 80 ramp at a high rate of speed, lost control, and then slammed into the building.

Crews conducted a thorough search of the structure to ensure no one inside had been injured.

No injuries were reported.

The incident remains under active investigation by the New Jersey State Police as they work to identify and locate the driver.
