Bullets Damage Vehicle in Newark's South Ward, Shooter at Large

Newark Police are investigating a shooting incident in the city's South Ward that resulted in property damage but, fortunately, no injuries.AdThe event occurred around 10:40 p.m. on Thursday in the 70's block of Mapes Avenue.

Triggered by an activation of the ShotSpotter device, police were alerted to the shooting.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered shell casings scattered around and a vehicle that had been hit by bullets.

A thorough search of the vehicle confirmed that it was unoccupied at the time of the incident, sparing any potential victims from harm.

The shooter managed to escape the scene before police could apprehend them and remain at large.AdAuthorities are now calling on the community for any information that might help in tracking down the suspect responsible for this act of violence.

 The investigation is ongoing at the Newark Police Department.
