Police in Newark are reporting severe injuries for one of two victims found shot in the city’s West Ward this evening.
According to authorities, police responded to a ShotSpotter activation that detected over 30 rounds of gunfire in the teens block of Chelsea Avenue around 5:40 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male suffering bullet wounds in his head at that location. He was listed in life threatening injuries at the hospital.
Police say they found a second victim suffering bullet wounds in their arms and leg after a further search of the area.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been alerted of the shooting and are en route to the scene.
The suspects fled the scene and remain at-large.
UPDATE 6:35 p.m. Over 50 shell casings recovered.
UPDATE: Officials are now reporting life threatening injuries.
