BREAKING: Three Injured in Newark Bergen Street Shooting

There is an active investigation underway into a shooting that has three people injured in Newark's South Ward.

Detail are developing, but according to preliminary information on the scene, more than 15 rounds of gunfire activated a ShotSpotter detection device in the vicinity of 676 Bergen Street just before 3:40 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male victim suffering gunshot injuries at that location.

Residents, who were hunkered down inside homes, came out and told police that two other gunshot victims were taken away in vehicles.

Police searched the area and found shell casings littering the ground, but no other victims were located.

Police said officials at University Hospital informed them that two victims entered the emergency department suffering non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

The suspects fled the scene and remain at-large.
