BREAKING: Pregnant Female Among Three Struck by Gunfire in Newark's South Ward

A pregnant female suffered non-life threatening injuries and was among three victims struck by gunfire as Tropical Storm Elsa dumped heavy rain in a section of Newark's South Ward early Friday morning. 

According to a preliminary investigation, shooters pulled up in a vehicle in the vicinity of 119 Sherman Avenue around 4:15 a.m. and began firing multiple rounds at two males and the female. 

Police say officers responded to the scene and found the woman struck by bullets in one of her legs and a man suffering two shots in his legs. 

A third shooting victim reportedly fled the scene and checked into University Hospital suffering bullet wounds to his feet. 

Police say the victims at the scene were transported by EMS to University Hospital for treatment and are expected to make a full recovery. 

Police recovered just under a dozen shell casings at the scene. 

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
