Emergency responders are on the scene administering CPR on a female suffering gunshot wounds in Newark’s West Ward at this time.
Gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 954 18th Avenue near West End Avenue around 8:10 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found multiple shell casings and a car struck by bullets near the intersection of Columbia Avenue and 18th Avenue.
The suspect fled the scene and is at large.
Avoid the area for the active investigation.
UPDATE 8:33 p.m.: Two additional gunshot victims have just arrived at University Hospital in private cars. The victim found on 18th Avenue was shot in his head. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has now been notified.
UPDATE 9:32 p.m. : Authorities corrected information on victim’s gender from male to female.
