Detective are on the scene of a shooting that has a male injured in a neighborhood in Newark's West Ward at this time.
Police responded to the area of South 17 Street and 15th Avenue after they received reports of shots fired at around 10:21 p.m.
Upon their arrival, they found the unconscious and unresponsive victim suffering a gunshot wound to the chest according to reports.
The victim is suffering life threatening injuries and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified.
