Police in Newark are on the scene of a shots fired incident with a man down in a driveway of a home in Newark's West Ward at this time.
Residents in the 200 block of Alexander Street contacted police when they heard several loud popping noises then a man screaming just before 6:30 p.m.
EMS are on the scene and are taking over life-saving techniques that was started by police on the unidentified man whose injuries are reported as severe at this time.
The suspects fled on foot towards 18th Avenue according to reports.
**ECPO UPDATE 8:22 pm** Officials at The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has informed our RLS Metro evening crew that the male shot on Alexander Street has transitioned and the incident is now a homicide investigation in its early stages. Sending condolences to the family of this gentleman.
**UPDATED 6:57PM** We are receiving life-threatening injuries for the unidentified victim at this time.
