A ShotSpotter activation alerted police in Newark’s East Ward of a shooting with more than a dozen rounds being fired in the vicinity or Orchard and Tichenor streets at approximately 9:10 p.m.
Units arriving at the scene found a male victim struck just under a half dozen times according to preliminary reports.
EMS units are preparing to rush the victim to University Hospital where doctors will begin to treat gunshot wounds to the victim’s abdomen and back.
The current condition of the victim is only reported as serious. There are several vehicles struck by bullets but a search of the area had no other injuries reported at this time.
There is a crime scene established and an investigation underway so avoid the area.
