Police have a crime scene established in a Newark South Ward neighborhood as detectives canvas the area for evidence after bullets struck and fatally wounded a male victim.
Reports of shots fired sent police to the area of Parkview Terrace and Vassar Avenue just before 10 p.m. where they arrived to find the victim struck.by gunfire inside a vehicle.
EMS rushed the male to University Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead a short time ago.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
There are no arrests reported.
Avoid the area for the investigation.
