BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Critical Injuries for Male Shot in Newark's South Ward

Authorities are on the scene of a shooting with a male victim struck by bullets in Newark's South Ward at this time.

According to police, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 408 Chancellor Avenue at approximately 5:50 p.m. where officers arrived to find a male struck by several bullets at that location.

Police say EMS rushed the unidentified victim to University Hospital where doctors are treating critical injuries at this time. A 6ft tall black male suspect -who wore all dark clothing- fled the scene in a black vehicle eastbound on Chancellor Avenue.

There is a crime scene established and an investigation underway.

No other injuries have been reported.
