BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Bullets Strike Three Victims in Newark’s South Ward

Residents in a section of the Newark’s South Ward scrambled for cover inside their homes then contacted police when they heard over a half dozen loud popping noises that resembled gunfire Sunday evening.

Police units rushed the single digit block of Earl Street -just off of Elizabeth Avenue- where they found two victims struck by gunfire at that location just before 10:20 p.m.

According to police, both victims’ injuries were considered non-life threatening with one suffering an arm injury while the other was struck to the hand.

There is a crime scene established and an investigation underway at this time.

NOTE: Police also have a crime scene established in the 600 block of Hunterdon Street where one person suffered gunshot wounds at approximately the same time as the Earl Street shooting incident.

The extent of the victim’s injuries have not been confirmed.

It is not clear if the two shootings are related.
