Police have a crime scene established in a neighborhood in Newark’s South Ward as officers and detectives investigate a shooting with a male victim severely injured at this time.
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired near 534 Clinton Avenue just before 6:15 p.m.
Units arrived and taped the area off after finding the unconscious and unresponsive victim (around 35-years-old) suffering multiple bullet wounds.
Police say the victim was transported to University Hospital in critical condition.
Newark’s Major Crimes Unit has been notified and are responding.
The suspect fled the scene and is at large.
