Police are on the scene of a shooting with a person down in Newark's South Ward at this time.
According to police, at approximately 1:50 p.m., gunfire erupted in the vicinity of South 12th Street and Madison Avenue, sending police to the scene to investigate.
Upon the officer's arrival, they found the unidentified victim suffering bullet wounds at that location.
EMS was requested to rush to the scene while police searched the area for a thin black male suspect last seen wearing a hoodie who fled on foot.
The condition of the victim has not been confirmed and the motive for the shooting is under an active investigation.
