Police units are rushing a male gunshot victim to University Hospital for treatment after a gunman fire at the victim at point-blank range, striking him multiple times.
According to officials, at approximately 3:45 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired near 24 Blum Street, where officers arrived and found the unidentified male suffering bullet wounds in his head.
Police placed the victim in their cruiser then rushed him to the hospital while other units taped off the area and checked for additional victims.
Officials said the victim is suffering life-threatening injuries.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified of the shooting, but there is no immediate confirmation of a homicide at this time.
UPDATE 4:42 p.m. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has arrived on the scene and are now leading the investigation at this time.
