Police have a crime scene established and an investigation underway into a shooting with severe injuries reported at this time in Newark’s North Ward.
According to police, at approximately 5 p.m., gunfire rang out in the 90’s block of 7th Avenue.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a male victim suffering severe injuries after a gunman shot him in the head multiple times.
Police are requesting additional assistance and EMS in a rush as a crowd is forming, with some spectators acting aggressively towards police.
There are life-threatening injuries reported at this time.
The suspect was captured shortly after the shooting.
**UPDATE 5:21 p.m.** The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been activated and are responding to the scene to lead the investigation for a confirmed fatality.
