Police have a section of Newark's West Ward closed off while officers search the area for possible suspects who fired shots at each other this afternoon.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 2:35 p.m., residents in the area of 18th Avenue and Alexander Street said they heard multiple gunshots rang out and initially believed that fireworks were going off.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found shell casings and a car belonging to a woman struck by bullets.
Police believe that the suspects exchanged bullets, but the investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
There were no injuries reported.
