Police have a crime scene established and an investigation underway into a shooting that has four victims shot at a location in Newark at this time.
Residents in the vicinity of 381 South 6th Street said at around 7:15 p.m., they heard several individuals engaged in a heated verbal dispute then multiple rounds of gunfire rang out.
Police arrived and found a woman suffering life-threatening bullet wounds in her head and two other victims shot at that location.
Police say while preparing the victims for transport to the hospital, University Hospital officials informed authorities that a fourth person arrived by private vehicle to the emergency room suffering bullet wounds.
Police say two women and two males were struck by gunfire in the incident.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and the suspect remains at-large.
**UPDATE 8:25 p.m.** The Essex County Prosector’s Office has been activated and are responding to the scene at this time. Fatal injuries reported for at least one victim.
