BREAKING: Fatal Injuries Confirmed After Car Rear-Ends Truck in Linden

According to a statement released by Linden Police officials, the incident happened just before 1:00 am on Wednesday.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of West St. George Avenue on reports of a severe motor vehicle crash.

Officials say according to preliminary reports, a 2002 Lexus sedan was traveling east when it struck a tractor-trailer parked on the side of the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old man from Elizabeth, was transported to Newark University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials say a second occupant, a 41-year-old man -also from Elizabeth- was transported to Rahway Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

West St. George Avenue was closed in both directions between N. Stiles Street and Rahway Avenue in Rahway until approximately 5:00 am.

The crash is under joint investigation by the Linden Police Traffic Bureau and the Union County Homicide Task Force. Anyone with information is urged to contact Inv. John Halkias at (908) 474-8505.
