Emergency responders are on the scene of a pedestrian strike with a woman severely injured on Route 1&9 in Elizabeth at this time.
Police and EMS rushed to the highway near East Grand Street just before 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian strike.
Units arrived at the scene and found the victim lying stretched out in the roadway after a vehicle apparently struck her at high speed according to preliminary reports.
The woman was transported to an area hospital where doctor began treating her injuries.
The investigation into what caused the incident is active, ongoing, and in its early stages. The driver of the car stayed at the scene.
