Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) reminds residents that the boil water advisory remains in effect in Paterson and Prospect Park following a major water main break near Hinchliffe Stadium.
Customers in these areas should continue to boil water for at least one minute before use or use bottled water for drinking, cooking, and oral hygiene until further notice.
There is no current estimate for a repair because officials said the leak is still flowing.
While some customers remain without water or have low pressure, others have service restored. PVWC is asking all customers with water service to use it wisely and conserve wherever possible.
This will help maintain pressure in the system, speed recovery efforts, and ensure water is available for essential needs, including firefighting.
Water conservation tips:
• Limit outdoor water use: At this time, please refrain from watering lawns and gardens.
• Fix leaks: Repair dripping faucets or running toilets, which can waste gallons of water daily.
• Shorten showers: Keep showers brief and turn off the water while brushing your teeth.
• Run full loads only: Use dishwashers and washing machines only when fully loaded.
• Report unauthorized hydrant use: Only PVWC and fire department personnel may operate hydrants. If you see unauthorized hydrant use, call PVWC at 973-340-4300 (option #2).
Water distribution:
• Beginning today at noon, until supplies last, PVWC is providing free bottled water to residents at Hillford Park, located at the corner of North 8th and Oxford Streets in Paterson. Proof of residency in Haledon, North Haledon, Paterson, or Prospect Park is required.
Ongoing efforts in the impacted area:
• In partnership with the City of Paterson, portable bathrooms and showers are being provided for residents without water. Porta-potties and four mobile shower units are up and running at Kennedy High School.
