The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Daniel Bataille of Hackensack, is facing multiple shoplifting charges, and police say the investigation is still ongoing.

According to Bloomfield police, Bataille was taken into custody on outstanding shoplifting warrants linked to numerous thefts at area businesses.

Officials say he repeatedly hit the Stop & Shop on Franklin Street, with reported incidents on April 22, May 8, May 13, June 1, and June 20, 2024.

In addition to grocery thefts, Bataille is also accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of clothing and other items from Marshall’s, also located on Franklin Street, on May 13 and May 14, 2024.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that he was involved in other retail thefts, and investigations remain active.

Retail shoplifting, particularly in large-scale incidents, can have significant financial impacts on businesses and communities.
