In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Clara Maass Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, will present a day of empowerment and education on breast cancer at Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, NJ. on Sunday, October 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.,

The ‘Pink Village’ health expo is free to attend and will feature educational information and health screenings, a conversation with a breast health expert, free flu shots, a kid’s zone, swag bags, raffles and prices, giveaways and more.

In the United States, approximately one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

This year alone, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed according to the American Cancer Society.

While the fight against breast cancer continues every single day, the month of October is dedicated to raising awareness around the importance of early detection and screening and shedding light on the advances in breast cancer treatment options and research.

The Pink Village expo will also feature an ‘Ask the Doctor’ table where community members can come to meet and chat with Clara Maass Medical Center’s Director of Breast Surgery, Maria J. Kowzun, MD, FACS. Dr. Kowzun is also an Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology and Section of Breast Surgery at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, New Jersey’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Kowzun will be available to meet community members and discuss breast health from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The health expo will take place in the Bloomingdale’s Wing of the Willowbrook Mall, located at 1400 Willowbrook Mall Blvd., Wayne, NJ 07470. For more information on breast health or to schedule a mammogram, visit www.rwjbh.org/mammo.
