A man was carjacked in Belleville Wednesday evening and forced to walk from the Church Street/Dow Street area into Newark after the suspect stole his cell phone, preventing him from immediately calling for help, according to information released to RLS Media by Detective Lieutenant John McAloon.

Lt. McAloon said the incident began around 5:30 p.m. on November 19, when the victim was sitting inside his 2021 Lincoln Corsair.
A tall Black male approached the vehicle, lifted his waistband as if armed, and warned, “Don’t make me hurt you.”
According to Lt. McAloon, the suspect then took the victim’s wallet, $34 in cash, his phone, keys, and ultimately the Lincoln itself.
With no way to contact police, the victim walked into Newark and reached Verona Avenue, where he was finally able to access a phone and report the crime.
Belleville detectives tracked the vehicle’s movements and located the stolen Lincoln at approximately 6:59 p.m. on Grafton Avenue in Newark.

The investigation remains active, and no arrests have been announced.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Belleville Police Department at 973-450-3333.
