Belleville Ave. Bridge Work to Continue Through Next Weekend

Bloomfield

’Rainy weather caused short delay to New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s project’

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- Scheduled maintenance to the Belleville Ave. bridge over the Garden State Parkway which began two weeks ago will be completed October 19, according to on-site contractors.

During the first weekend of work, the Belleville Ave. bridge was closed to cars and pedestrians in both directions but has since been open to westbound direction.

Traffic wanting to cross in the eastbound direction must the detour plan (south on John F. Kennedy Drive North to east on to Liberty St. to north on Williamson Ave.)

The biggest reason for the short delay in this project, which is being paid for by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority through their bridge maintenance program, has been rain, which has made the removal of steel a longer process, and impacted the contract’s ability to access the repairs from underneath. J.M. Sanzari Construction Company is the contractor for this project.

The project is expected to be completed on October 19. Updates on this project will also be posted on the Bloomfield municipal website. Road closure alerts are posted online at https://www.bloomfieldtwpnj.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?CID=5.
