Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello announced that a Bayonne resident has been sentenced to nearly four decades in state prison for his role in a 2022 shooting in Jersey City.

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, Superior Court Judge Daniel DeSalvo handed down a 38-year sentence to Elijah Wilson, 33, following his conviction earlier this year.

A jury found Wilson guilty of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Certain Persons Not to Have a Weapon.

Prosecutors said Wilson received 30 years in state prison for the Attempted Murder conviction.

That term will run consecutively to an additional eight-year sentence for the Certain Persons Not to Have a Weapon charge, bringing his total sentence to 38 years.

The charges stemmed from a nonfatal shooting that occurred on November 5, 2022, near Clinton Avenue and West Side Avenue in Jersey City. Authorities said the victim survived the attack.
