Bayonne

A 47-year-old Bayonne man was arrested and charged Friday for breaking into a 21st Street market, where he stole cash, lottery tickets, and cartons of cigarettes.

Police say that in the early morning hours of June 7, John A. Hyland, 47, used a brick to break the front window of the Princess Market and Deli on East 21st Street and made off with $150 in cash, 31 sealed packs of lottery tickets and approximately 15 cartons of cigarettes.

According to officials, Hyland, 47, was arrested and charged on Friday after police identified him as the suspect in the burglary.

Authorities say the cigarettes are valued at roughly $1,200. Police ultimately charged Hyland with burglary and theft.

Officials added that just two weeks ago, Hyland reportedly ransacked the Bayonne Golf Club on May 29th and stole wholesale cases of sports drinks and snacks; a plastic container filled with sealed and unsealed liquor bottles; baskets filled with food items; as well as prepackaged sandwiches and plastic bags filled with beer cans.

According to police, he stole approximately $4,360 worth of merchandise. Police charged Hyland with burglary, theft, and possession of burglary tools.
