Law enforcement officials in Morris County are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who allegedly robbed a bank in Boonton over the weekend.

According to a statement released by Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, investigators responded at approximately 1:57 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, to a report of an armed robbery at the Chase Bank located at 530 Myrtle Avenue in Boonton.
The investigation revealed that a man entered the bank wearing a ski mask, sunglasses, and gloves while brandishing a handgun.
Authorities said the suspect demanded money before fleeing the bank with approximately $12,000 in cash.
Investigators said the suspect escaped in a gray or silver Honda Odyssey that was parked nearby before leaving the area.
The suspect is described as a white male believed to be in his 50s, wearing a black suit, black gloves, and a dark-colored tie.
The investigation is being conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Boonton Police Department, and the FBI.
Officials also emphasized that, contrary to reports circulating on social media, the suspect was not apprehended during a motor vehicle stop on Interstate 80.
Anyone with information about the robbery, including home surveillance or dash camera footage from the area around the time of the incident, is urged to contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit through the Morris County Communications Center at 973-285-2900.
