Authorities Make Arrest in Camden County Stabbing

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Lindenwold Police Department reported a Lindenwold man has been charged in connection with a stabbing at his residence.

Melvin Diaz, 34, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Lindenwold police responded at approximately 1:43 a.m. on Sunday to a residence the unit block of East Walnut Avenue in Lindenwold in reference to 911 calls reporting a person bleeding. Officers arrived and found that both Diaz and his 26-year-old girlfriend had been stabbed.

The investigation revealed Diaz stabbed his girlfriend multiples times and then stabbed himself during a domestic incident at their home.

Both were taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. 

The suspect is reported to be in stable condition. 

The victim is reported to be in critical condition.
