Separate overnight shootings that left two injured in Newark has authorities investigating.
Gunfire rang out shortly before 2 a.m. in the area of North 6th Street and 6th Ave. rushing police to the scene where multiple shell casings were recovered. A thorough search of the area by several units had police finding a male victim shot in the leg on the 70's block of North 13th Street.
The victim was taken to University Hospital where his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Police are looking for as many as three black males last seen fleeing the area. The men were all said to be armed with weapons.
A man found laying on the ground in the area of Clinton Place and Hawthorne Ave. around 7:30 p.m. sent police to scene where the man was the apparent victim of gunfire. The man was rushed to University Hospital where he was reported to be in serious condition. A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office could not confirm the shooting as a homicide.
