Authorities in Essex County are investigating the death of a man who was discovered unresponsive at a Belleville golf course Thursday evening.
According to preliminary information, shortly before 5:51 p.m., officers from the Belleville Police Department and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Hendricks Field Golf Course after receiving reports of an unconscious person in a drainage stream on the property.
When emergency responders arrived, they located an unidentified man who was unconscious and unresponsive in the stream.
The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said Belleville police later turned the investigation over to the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials told RLS Media that the incident does not appear to involve foul play, and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office was not involved in the case.
No additional details were immediately available as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the death.
