Authorities Identify Man Killed in Jersey City Shooting

The 25-year-old man shot and killed Tuesday morning near McGinley Square in Jersey City has been identified.

Hudson County Prosecutors Office identified Tuesday's victim as 25-year-old Kempton Cummings of Jersey City.

Police responded to the intersection of Bergen and Storms avenues sometime around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, were police found Cummings suffering a gunshot wound to the lower back.

Cummings was transported to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health where he was pronounced dead at at about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning.

According to witnesses, a 6'1" tall stocky black male with short dreads  was seen in the area following the shooting.

Two witnesses at the scene told police they saw a man with dreadlocks, about 6 feet, 1 inches tall leave the scene on a mountain bike.

The investigation is still ongoing.
