Authorities Identify Man Found Shot Dead in Newark's Ironbound Section

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced that authorities are investigating a shooting incident in Newark this morning in which a male was fatally shot.

According to authorities, shortly before 7:15 a.m. on Sunday,, Newark Police responded to the 150 block of Walnut Street on a report of a male having been shot. Arriving officers discovered that the victim, who has been identified as Agostinoh Sousa, 40, of Newark, had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at 7:28 a.m. 

The matter is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. 

The investigation is ongoing at this time according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
