The Essex County Prosecutor's Office have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred late Sunday evening in the 100 block of South 11th Street in the city's West Ward.
Katherine Carter a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office identified the victim as 34-year-old Naim Riker, a resident of Newark .
Newark Police responded to calls of shots fired in the area around 9:45 p.m. according to Carter. Carter said when they arrived on the scene, they discovered the victim outside shot at that location. Riker was transported to University hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 10:22 p.m. according to Carter.
The shooting startled residents in the close knit community that said the area is relatively quiet.
An arrest have not been nor have we identified a suspect at this time Carter said.
Carter said that the investigation is active and ongoing.
