Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Wednesday night in Newark, NJ.
Authorities said the incident occurred in the 600 block of South 10th Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. when Newark police officers were dispatched to the area of South 10th Street and Woodland Avenue on a report of a shooting. Authorities said arriving officers located an unresponsive male lying outside in a courtyard at this location. The victim, who has been identified as Jemmaine T.Bynes, age 31, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:53 p.m.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is ongoing and active at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
