Authorities Charge Two Men with Money Laundering After Bergen County Traffic Stop Reveals $17K in Cash

Bergen County

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of Joel Maldonado, 23, and Joel Riviera, 23, both of Harrisburg, PA, on charges of Money Laundering.

The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.

Police say on August 26, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force conducted a traffic stop of a 2012 Jeep Cherokee on Interstate 95 North in Fort Lee, NJ.

A search of the vehicle by BCPO detectives revealed several rubber banded bundles of money totaling $17,518.00, which were concealed inside the sleeves of a child’s winter coat according to police.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the Fort Lee Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
