Authorities Charge Five for Atlantic City Shooting

Authorities in Atlantic County charged five New Jersey residents for a shooting that took place over the summer.

According to Atlantic County officials, Phillip Hayes, 35, Lester Robinson, 29, and Monica Gonzalez, 27, all from Atlantic City, and Quamel Schaffer, 30, and Quataisa Harrington, 23, both from Millville, were indicted on Tuesday, December 6, by a Grand Jury.

Officials say, these charges stemmed from an investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department of the fatal shooting of Malikah McLaughlin in Atlantic City in August.

Phillip Hayes and Lester Robinson were indicted on counts of First-Degree Murder, First- Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Second-Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun Without a Permit, Second-Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Third-Degree Hindering Apprehension, and Second-Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons.

According to officials, Quamel Shaffer was indicted on counts of First-Degree Murder, First-Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Second-Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun Without a Permit, Second- Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Second-Degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons.

Monica Gonzalez and Quataisa Harrington were indicted on Third-Degree Hindering Apprehension.
