Attempted Newark Carjacking Leads to Pursuit, Arrests in Orange

An early morning attempted carjacking in Newark had officers chased down the suspects in Orange.

The incident began at a location in the city's North Ward shortly before 3:00 a.m. when officers searching the area of Mount Prospect Avenue and Verona Avenue came across the suspected vehicle and attempted to stop it.

The driver of the vehicle ignored officers' lights and sirens and began to speed away ultimately leading them to the westbound lanes of Rt. 280 toward Orange.

Police continued to follow the vehicle where three suspects bailed from the vehicle in the area of Scotland Road and Highland Avenue in the city of Orange according to reports.

One of the suspects was immediately taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Cops searching the 400 block of Highland Avenue captured a second suspect several minutes later.

A search for the third suspect using K-9 units from the Essex County Sheriff's Department did not return a report of an arrest as of early this morning.

Police located a weapon and other items inside the vehicle during their search.

There were no injuries immediately reported.
